Influence of soil–structure interaction on seismic demands of historic masonry structure of Kashan Grand Bazaar

Heritage structures are an important part of the history each community as well economic resource. This study aims to investigate earthquake damage and failure mechanism a historic Bazaar located in Kashan (center Iran), which dates back eighteenth century. Numerical models were built by macro method, considering two cases fixed support soil–structure interaction (SSI). To assess structural behavior, modal, nonlinear static, dynamic time analyses performed using three dimensional finite element method. The results SSI analysis show intense weakness structure against required demand based on design spectrum. Also, foundation flexibility has great impact vibration characteristics, displacement demand, distribution. By comparing pushover procedure, lower shear value higher obtained. Furthermore, process is dome collapse alongside short arch, consequently long arch followed pier wall overturning.
